I’m trying to set up a .Mac account, and when I tried to send an email it told me I had the wrong SMTP server. I know how to change which outgoing server I want to use, but I don’t actually know what my server is. Is it determined by my Internet connection? I get it through Comcast, and I have an AirPort Extreme router…so how do I find out exactly what it is?
This is driving me nuts! We have a small workgroup LAN that we use to share an broadband connection to the Internet. This is done via a router with a built in firewall. Everything is functioning as normal but I noticed whenever we’d try to access webmail the connection will timeout. Personally I use an email client and the smtp and pop servers work without a hitch. It’s only when we try to access the webmail we can’t get to it. I’ve run traceroutes on several remote sites and they can access the site just fine.
Right now I’m wondering if it’s a problem with our network or is it the ISP. It’s just strange that we can get to almost every other site just fine but the webmail is timing out.
I’d appreciate any input anyone can offer me. I’m at a loss.
I should also mention that loss of connection to the site is intermittent. Sometimes I can get to the site and other times I get the time out.
I always forget how to get the pop and smtp host . can anyone help please?> this is to configure my daughters apple laptop and i already have broadband set up and shes had an email address for her other laptop for ages…thank you!
How to configure smtp server?? is it preinstalled on all home pcs or do we have to install it explicitly?
I’m trying to figure out a way to give people the ability to email each other, but not other people outside the network. Is there such a thing as email that only connects to other people on the network?
I ‘ve set a smtp server using iis 5.1 in Winxp sp2. I ‘ve tested the server communication using telnet at port 25. Everything is fine! The server is working perfectly. Now how do I receive the message?
